Henry F. Rivet
Henry F. Rivet
BURRILLVILLE- Henry F. Rivet, 73, of Burrillville, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, Henry was the son of the late Edgar and Mary (Charrette) Rivet.
Henry was known to be an all-star hockey player. He was the goalie for the Burrillville Broncos from 1957-1959, where he helped the Broncos clinch their 9th state hockey title as well as their 12th straight regular season championship. As his senior year at Burrillville High School was coming to an end and graduation was nearing, Henry was offered a full-ride scholarship to Notre Dame to play on their hockey team. In the end, Henry had turned down what most people would consider to be a once in a life time opportunity to play for a prestigious school, to instead fight for his rights and the rights of his fellow country men, when he enlisted in the United States Army. In addition to being given the chance to play for the Fighting Irish, luck had struck twice for Henry to show off his talents, for he was awarded the opportunity to try out for the Detroit Red Wings as a young adult.
Henry was more than just a hockey player. After serving his country, Henry had worked for the Zambarano Hospital at Wallum Lake as a laundry facility worker for many years. After retiring, Henry, along with his wife Marjorie, enjoyed 9 winters in Kissimmee, Florida. Henry's favorite part was touring the local flea markets. He would go out of his way to buy his sons a souvenir, but when he gave it to them, he would say oh, by the way you owe me. Henry was also a practical joker. He would often call from Florida and inquire how cold it was back home while sitting on his patio in a pair of shorts. Besides spending time with his wife and sons, he also loved spending time with his twin grandchildren Natalie and Derrik, who will miss him greatly.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife Marjorie of Harrisville, RI; sons Scott and his wife Cindy of Attleboro, MA and Kevin and his wife Claudine of Chepachet, RI; twin grandchildren Natalie and Derrik of Attleboro, MA; cousin Ron and his wife Ann of Orlando, FL, who was more like a brother to Henry; a sister Marie Castonguay of Harrisville, RI ; 3 nephews and 1 niece.
Henry was preceded in death by a sister Ann Rivet.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12PM in the Brown Funeral Home 1496 Victory Highway, Oakland, RI. Burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Pascoag, RI. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6-8PM.
