WOONSOCKET- Francis M. "Bud" Danahey, 88, died May 14, 2012 in Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland. He was the husband of the late Mary H. (Podorozny) Danahey.
Born in Worcester, MA, he was the son of the late George H. and Anna C. (Moore) Danahey.
Mr. Danahey was a graduate of Blackstone High School and Hill College and attended Northeastern University. He was a Certified Public Accountant for over 40 years and was a partner at Christiansen & Company and Ernest & Young, retiring in 1985. Mr. Danahey was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a member, Eucharistic Minister and Trustee of St. Charles Borromeo Church and served on its financial council. Mr. Danahey served on the Rhode Island State Board of Accountancy, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Council and the finance committee in the town of Blackstone. He was the Tax Assessor in the town of Blackstone, Treasurer and board member of the Visiting Nurses Association, Kirkbrae Country Club and Woonsocket Development Corporation. Mr. Danahey was president of the Rhode Island Society of CPAs, trustee of Woonsocket Hospital and was the chairman of the audit committee at Landmark Hospital. He was a school advisory board member for the Diocese of Providence, Mt. St. Charles Academy and Mercymount Country Day School. Mr. Danahey was chairman and Treasurer of the Northern Rhode Island Community Mental Health Center, chairman of the advisory board of the St. Francis House and Treasurer of the Agape Center, Inc. He was president of the Housing Partners for Positive Living. He also served on the Cemetery Advisor Board for the Diocese of Providence, the Board of Governors at the Winnesuket Country Club, the Gateway Healthcare System Board and Finance Committee, Family Resources Community Action and the Advisory Committee for the Bishops Partnership in Charity. Mr. Danahey served as treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society/ St. Charles Church.
He leaves his son, Francis M. Danahey, Jr. and his wife Vicki of Granby, CT; his daughter, M. Kathleen McGuire and her husband Robert of Franklin, MA; two sisters, Elizabeth Krawczyk of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Mary Briggs of Slatersville; three grandchildren, Patrick and Maureen McGuire and Siobhan Danahey; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and George Danahey and a sister, Eugenia Lanchasky.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012, beginning with visitation at 8:30AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 190 No. Main St., Woonsocket. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry, 204 No. Main St., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
