BELLINGHAM- Allen G. Crawford, Sr., 77, of Bellingham, MA for 50 years, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Kindred Hospital, Stoughton, MA with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 52 years of Joan E. (Tabor) Crawford.
Born in Weymouth, MA on May 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Stanley G. and Lillian Rose (Dow) Crawford of Quincy and was raised by the late Jessie and Preston Farrington of Franklin.
He was the loving father of Cindy Crawford and partner Don Cox of Blackstone, MA, Buck Crawford and partner Dianne Altomonte of Woonsocket, RI, Jackie Cote and her husband, Jeff of Bellingham, MA, Lindy Ehrman and her husband, Peter of North Providence, RI, Debbie Parker and her husband, Jeff of Bellingham, MA, Stanley Crawford and partner Vicki Ledger of Yarmouth, MA, Paula Saliba and her husband, Pierre of Bellingham, MA, Kirk Crawford of Bellingham, MA, Allen Crawford, Jr. of Bellingham, MA, and Daughter-In-Law Barbara Powers of Milford. He leaves his cherished 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Larry Crawford and his wife, Wilma of Murfreesboro,TN and the late Lillian Wilkinson, Stanley Crawford, Nancy Longest, Stella Curtis, Beatrice Slocum and David Crawford. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved cat Pumkin.
He was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1952. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and served as Military Police and was medically discharged in 1960. He received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Medway and served as Past Commander, and life member of DAV Milford Post. He was a member of the Bellingham Memorial Day Parade Committee from 1962-2008, raised funds and organized installation of the Bellingham War Memorial and was Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshall 2007 and the Memorial Day and Veteran's Affairs Monument Care Committee Chairman. He was a lifetime member of the Bellingham Sportsman Club and was Sportsman of the Year in 1989, and remodeled the club and built the softball field which is named in his honor. He was a founding member of the Bellingham Over 30 Softball League. He was a Master Carpenter and an avid Red Sox Fan. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
Visiting hours are on Friday May 18th from 5 to 7:30PM at CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a service at 7:30PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers send donations to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
