MARLBOROUGH- Sister Doris Pontbriand, a Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Marie Anne Elise, died suddenly Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the age of 83, at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough. She was in the 63rd year of religious life.
She was the daughter of Arsene and Elise (Vandal) Pontbriand of Manville, R.I.
She completed her elementary education at St. James School in Manville and obtained her high school diploma from Notre Dame High School, Central Falls, R.I. She held a bachelor of science degree from Boston College School of Nursing and a Visiting Ministry Certificate from St. Vincent Hospital Department of Pastoral Service. She entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec in 1947 and was professed in 1949. She began her teaching ministry in Worcester, and also taught in Central Falls before beginning studies in the nursing field. After obtaining her RN, she ministered at St. Anne Academy, Marlborough, St. Anne de Beaupre, Quebec, and at St. Anne Infirmary in Marlborough. She also worked at the J.E. Fogarty Memorial Hospital, N. Smithfield, Woonsocket Hospital and Mount St. Rita Health Center in Cumberland, R.I.
During the last 10 years of active ministry she worked as clinical pastoral associate at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Milford. She entered the Assisted Living section of Marie Esther Health Center in January 2001.
Sister is survived by her sisters in community; her sisters, Cecile Dussault; and Suzanne Pontbriand, both of Manville and three brothers, Leo and his wife, Pauline, of Cumberland, R.I., Lucien and his wife, Joan, of Woonsocket, and Richard and his wife, Jacqueline, of Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Pontbriand from Florida; and also several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Jean and brother in law, Lucien Dussault.
She will be waked at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road East Marlborough, Tuesday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 13 at 10 a.m., at the Convent Chapel, with burial in Saint Mary Cemetery, Marlborough. Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home

A Memorial Mass will be held on Sat., June 30th at 11 am at St. James Church in Manville, RI, all are welcome to attend.
