BLACKSTONE- Lionel J. Gagnon, 85, of Blackstone, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth M. (Bureau) Gagnon.
Born in Blackstone, MA on November 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Wilbrod and Evea (Fleurant) Gagnon.
He was the loving father of Roger J. Gagnon and his wife, Marcia, Paul J. Gagnon and his wife Judy all of Blackstone, MA, Alan N. Gagnon and his wife, Kathy of Saluda, VA, Carol J. Perrault and her husband, Robert of Blackstone, MA; and his cherished 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his late great-granddaughter Brittney Lynn Fountain. He was the brother of Robert D. Gagnon of Blackstone, MA and the late Roger Gagnon, Norman Gagnon, Jeannette Thivierge and Edna Roy.
A resident of Blackstone since 1949, formerly of Woonsocket and Cumberland, he was a Union Carpenter for Local #535 of Randolph, MA working as a foreman for Westcot Construction of Attleboro, MA for many years until retiring in 1991.
He was a United States Army WWII Veteran serving with the Anti-Tank Company 63rd Infantry where he guarded various places such as beaches, Officers quarters and Nurses quarters, supervised work of Japanese prisoners performed while serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of the VFW of Slatersville, RI.
He raised turkeys and chickens, sold his eggs and enjoyed his vegetable garden. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
Arrangements are private under the direction of Cartier's Funeral Home, Bellingham, MA.
