SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- Three straight singles with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning helped the Syracuse Chiefs score the run that produced a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium.
Down by a 5-3 score heading into the home half of the ninth, the Chiefs tied the score by scoring twice off reliever Daniel Bard, who gave up a single and a double and only threw half of his 22 pitches for strikes. He did not walk or strike out anyone.
The PawSox (45-27) were keyed by Ryan Lavarnway’s 4-for-4 day at the plate and Justin Germano’s spectacular seven-inning start that saw him strike out three batters and allow three hits, two walks, and a run.
The PawSox grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-out RBI double to center field by Josh Kroeger that was followed by a run-scoring single to right by Lavarnway.
The Chiefs cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the inning, but the PawSox answered back with two more runs in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Mauro Gomez and a RBI single by Che-Hsuan Lin.
Syracuse made it a 4-3 game in the bottom of the eighth by scoring twice off reliever Junichi Tazawa, but the PawSox struck for their final run in the ninth on a RBI single by Jonathan Hee.
Jason Repko, Gomez, and Lin also had two hits each for the PawSox, who will wrap up their four-game series with the Chiefs tonight at 7 p.m. They will return to McCoy Stadium on Friday to begin a four-game series with the Louisville Bats.
