HARRISVILLE- Joanne E. (Armstrong) Girard, 51, of Harrisville passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Landmark Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was the former wife of the late Michael W. Girard, Sr.
Born in Woonsocket on December 2, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Donald A. and Pauline Y. (Brunelle) Armstrong.
She was the loving mother of Michael W. Girard, Jr. USAF, stationed in South Korea, Steven J. Girard of Harrisville, RI, Aja J. Girard of Mapleville, RI, and Stephanie P. Girard of Harrisville, RI. She leaves her cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Girard, Tyler Girard-Dillon, Lilah and Travis Dorsey. She was the sister of Russell D. Armstrong, Robin Dean, Allison Frazer, Paula Copeland all of Blackstone, and Jill Byrne of Woonsocket. She also leaves nieces and nephews.
A resident of Harrisville formerly of Blackstone where she was raised and a graduate of Blackstone Millville Regional High School Class of 1978. She received her Physical Therapy Assistant Degree in 1996 and her Registered Nursing Degree in 2009 both from CCRI. Joanne was the Assistant Director of Nursing at the Morgan Health Center of Johnston, RI, and was a Charge Nurse at the Hebert Nursing Home of Smithfield, RI. She was a motorcycle enthusiast, an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with her family, she will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Theresa Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone, MA. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, June 27th from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
