CUMBERLAND/LINCOLN/WOONSOCKET/NORTH SMITHFIELD- Alfred J. "Pete" Caron, 88, a Cumberland resident for almost 50 years, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at Mount Saint Rita Health Centre. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Muriel Bergesson.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Alfred and Marie (Chartier) Caron.
He graduated from Mount Saint Charles in 1940 and the former Hill College in 1942. He served in the army during World War II. When he returned from the service, he went to work at R. A. Bergesson and Son where he was the office manager for over 40 years. Mr. Caron was a member of the former Woonsocket Country Club and Kirkbrae Country Club. He was also an avid chess player.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Sister Ann Marie Caron, RSM of West Hartford, CT, Raymond Caron of Orlando, FL, and Dr. Philip Caron and his wife Susan Benz of New York, NY; four grandchildren, Rae-Anne Butera, Dawn Hall, and Francis and Michael Caron; and two great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland, R.I. on Saturday, June 30 at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Saint John Cemetery, Slatersville, R.I. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mount Saint Rita Health Centre, 15 Sumner Brown Rd, Cumberland, RI 02864, will be appreciated. Arrangements by the O'Neill Funeral Home.
