Budget Commission hire Smithfield town solicitor as legal counsel

WOONSOCKET — The state-appointed Budget Commission has hired Smithfield Town Solicitor Edmund L. Alves Jr. as its staff legal counsel.
Alves will be paid $175 per hour, minus a 15 percent discount the state has imposed on many of its employees. Though the budget commission was seated by the state, Woonsocket is responsible for Alves’ fees.
