Split school board vote allows panel to oust leaders

WOONSOCKET — A power struggle simmering between members of the School Committee erupted into a public debate Wednesday night as the panel, on a 3-2 split, voted to approve a bylaw change allowing removal of a sitting chair or vice chair of the panel by a majority vote of the members.
The resolution, introduced by School Committeeman John Donlon and supported by members Vimala Phongsavanh and Eleanor Nadeau, requires two passages by the panel to take effect.
