Carl O. Newell

WOONSOCKET - Carl O. Newell, 71, of Mendon Rd., Woonsocket, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late Clyde O. and Edna E. (Johnson) Newell.
He was an Administrator for The Ballou Home, Woonsocket, for more than eleven years, retiring in 2010. He received a B.S. degree from Johnson & Wales University. He was a member of the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen, a local Bicycling Group that traveled worldwide to ride, and the members were some of his best friends. He served his country in the US Army from 1959 to 1962. He was also a member of the Woonsocket YMCA.
He is survived by one brother, Robert C. Newell and his wife Martha of Acushnet, MA, one sister, Janice E. Dawson of Fairhaven, MA and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his ex-wife and long time friend Lucie Newell.
His funeral, beginning with visitation, will be held Thursday July 26, 2012 at 10AM, followed by a service at 11AM, in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Church St., No. Smithfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904.
