Residents can use new bins right away

July 29, 2012

BURRILLVILLE — A delivery truck began dropping off new trash and recycling carts to residents last week for the new automated cart based, curbside residential trash and recycling program, which starts Monday, Aug. 6.
Residents can start using the new bins right away. Trash should be secured in plastic bags (not loose) and completely in the bin so the lid closes securely. Recycling can be mixed in the one bin, again completely in the bins so the lid closes.
There will be information on the new program tied to the cart handle. A guide was also mailed out to homeowners earlier in the month.
The town's new trash hauler, Waste Management of Rhode Island, officially took over the town's curbside trash and recycling collection as of July 1. Collection days will remain the same, but pickup times may vary as the truck crews adjust to the town's landscapes.
Town officials are banking on the new automated recycling program to provide a faster, more consistent collection process and more convenience for residents.
