DANVERS, MA- Rene Ledoux, 84, died on Friday August 3, 2012 at his home in Danvers, MA.
He was born in Woonsocket, RI on October 21, 1927, son of the late Hormisdas and Corinne Ledoux.
He was a lifelong resident of Norwich, CT and communicant of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
He is survived by Lillian Ledoux, his wife of 60 years, his son Ronald Ledoux and wife Cheryl of Charlotte, NC, son Gary Ledoux and wife Beth of Amarillo, TX, son Mark Ledoux of San Diego, CA, daughter Jayne (Ledoux) Rice and husband Chris of Manchester, MA, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island and the University of Connecticut, Rene was employed by Norwich Free Academy from 1953 through 1989 as a teacher, baseball and football coach, administrator and Athletic Director. During his 22-year tenure as NFA's baseball coach he achieved a win-loss record of 241-153, which included 9 CDC Championships, 14 Connecticut State Tournament appearances and back-to-back State Championships in 1960 & 1961. He also coached football and baseball at the United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT and Bacon Academy, Colchester, CT respectively. He is a member of the Connecticut High School Coaches Hall of Fame, the NFA Sports Hall of Fame and the Norwich Bulletin Hall of Fame. He was also very active in the Norwich community youth sports programs.
Rene, a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, was active for 28 years in the Lodge of Elks. He also served in the Knights of Columbus for 27 years, holding the office of Grand Knight in 1987 & 1991. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and at the local casinos.
He will be cremated and memorialized at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Norwich, CT on Monday August 6, 2012 at 2:00PM with a reception to follow.
