NORTH SMITHFIELD - Patricia L. (Patty) Gurka 47, of North Smithfield, formerly of Johnston, RI, passed away at Umass Medical Center in Worcester, MA, after injuries sustained in a motor vehicle car accident on August 11, 2012.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Savoie) Ryan. Patricia worked for over 10 years at Zambarano Hospital in Pascoag, RI as a Registered Nurse. She enjoyed everything from the outdoors, to movies, to decorating but most of all her true passion was the love and enjoyment of her children, grandchildren and her dog Bella.
She is survived by her children Tara Mintz of Sandwich, MA, Alyssa Costa of West Yarmouth, MA, John Gurka of West Yarmouth, MA and Madison Gurka of Johnston, RI. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amelia and Gabriel Mintz of Sandwich, MA and her sisters, Cheryl Tessier of Alturas, CA, Susan E. Valeriani of Conway, NH and Jo-ann D. Sullivan of North Smithfield, RI, and her former husband, Stephen Gurka of North Smithfield, RI.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, August 17, from the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Road, North Smithfield, RI with a committal service at 10 AM in St. Johns Cemetery, Slatersville, RI. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 16th, from 4-7 PM.
