Auger family spruces up memorial garden as thank you to WPD

WOONSOCKET — Family and friends of longtime Woonsocket Police Dispatcher Ron Auger were at the station Thursday evening sprucing up the small garden created in his memory. Ron's mother, Jeanne, said she and her helpers had stopped by on Tuesday to trim the weeping cherry tree planted near her son’s plaque and noticed the area needed a bit more work.
"So I said to my crew, ‘It's going to be a good-deed project and we're going back down to the station to rake leaves and weed the garden,’” Jeanne Auger said. She felt it was a wonderful gesture for the department to have remembered her son with the memorial and as a result she wanted to do her part as a thank you.
"I figured we can at least help to keep it up," she said.
Ron Auger died in July 2009 shortly after coming down with an illness. He was known for helping out with the department's annual toy drive and his family has continued that work with an annual collection at their Wood Avenue home.
