NORTH SMITHFIELD — The North Smithfield Emergency Management Association (EMA) has begun collaborative talks with agencies in Burrillville, Glocester and Smithfield with the goal of sharing staff and pooling resources as a regional emergency management team to help residents in the three communities weather storms and other emergency situations.
The first of several monthly meetings was held recently at the North Smithfield Town Hall to address current needs and future objectives, North Smithfield Town Administrator and Public Safety Director Paulette D. Hamilton said Wednesday.
"With hurricane season and winter soon upon us, the potential for power outages and need for sheltering is high on our list of priorities," Hamilton said. "We are working with surrounding communities to provide all residents with the most convenient and safest way to weather storms."
According to Hamilton, members of each agency have begun reviewing staff and material needs and will be working as a regional team utilizing maximum staffing to share and work on any emergency issues that may arise.
