WEB ONLY: PawSox advance to Governors' Cup finals

PawSox manager Arnie Beyeler and his players advanced to the Governors' Cup finals after finishing off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Saturday night.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the first time since 2003, the Pawtucket Red Sox will play for the right to be called Governors’ Cup champions. The PawSox clinched a spot in this week’s championship series after disposing of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 7-1, in Game Four of the best-of-five opening-round series on Saturday night at Frontier Field. Pawtucket wins the series, three games to one. The finals get underway Tuesday night with the first two games on tap at McCoy Stadium. The PawSox will play Charlotte after the Knights eliminated first-round foe Indianapolis in four games.
Facing the same Scranton team he parted company with in July, Pawtucket starter Nelson Figueroa turned in eight innings of one-run ball that included seven strikeouts, one walk and 116 pitches. ”This is awesome and everything you work toward all year long,’ said Figeuroa. “Obviously I’d love to be in Boston, but if you’re going to be in the minors, Pawtucket is great and we want to be the best.”
Added PawSox skipper Arnie Beyeler: “Figeuroa was outstanding. He’s been a warrior since coming over.”
The PawSox scored all of its runs in the top of the second inning as Danny Valencia delivered the frame’s biggest blow, a three-run home run that wound up lowering the curtain on Yankees starter Vidal Nuno, who lasted just 1 2/3 innings.
“We wanted to come out and jump on (Nuno) early,” said Beyeler.
