Cicilline wins big over Gemma

Incumbent U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline takes to the stage, surrounded by family, close friends and campaign workers, at Blaze Restaurant on Providence's East Side, to claim victory over opponent Anthony Gemma, a Lincoln businessman, shortly after 9:00 Tuesday night. Cicilline, who won 62 percent of the vote to Gemma's 30 percent, in the hardfought primary, was elated after being introduced by R.I. Democratic Party state chairman Ed Pacheco, saying, in reference to his Republican opponent Brendan Doherty, "he's made it clear he stands with Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and the Washington Republicans and their radical agenda that will move our country backwards." The crowd of around 50 supporters, some waving signs, quickly responded with cheers of "Go David, Go." A new campaign has now begun.
