September 12, 2012

CUMBERLAND — Mia A. Ackerman will advance to the general election ballot as the Democratic contender for House District 45 after defeating veteran state Rep. Rene R. Menard in Tuesday's primary election.
Voters going to the polls Tuesday were given the task of narrowing the field of two Democratic candidates vying for the House District 45 seat, which also includes portions of Lincoln. Ackerman, a Cumberland town councilor, came out on top and trounced Menard in Cumberland with a vote of 842 to 552, but lost to Menard in Lincoln by a vote of 222 to 345.
Ackerman's two-town total vote was 1,064, while Menard's was 897, thus earning Ackerman a spot on the Nov. 6 ballot.
