Woman robs Lincoln bank; third bank robbed in 2 days

September 19, 2012

LINCOLN – A woman who allegedly robbed the Navigant Credit Union on Front Street Wednesday afternoon was arrested about a half hour later in Cumberland.
Chief Brian Sullivan said the suspect, a woman in her 20s, walked into the credit union about 2:45 p.m. and demanded money from a teller.
The woman made off with an undetermined amount of cash and was seen fleeing the bank in a motor vehicle, heading toward Cumberland, said Sullivan.
“We believe we have someone in custody,” Sullivan said late yesterday. “We are working to identify that person right now.”
Sullivan said police would issue a press release with more details shortly. He said the woman was arrested by the Cumberland Police Department less than a half hour after the robbery. Some cash was recovered, said Sullivan.
It’s still unclear whether there’s a connection between the Navigant holdup and the robbery of the Columbus Credit Union in East Providence just after noon the day before. Police are also looking for a female suspect in connection that that robbery.
The Columbus Credit Union was one of two credit unions robbed in East Providence on Tuesday. About 3:30 p.m., another was reported at the Pawtucket Credit Union branch on Newport Avenue.
The suspect in the latter incident was described as the infamous “bearded bandit,” a still-unidentified male believed to have robbed at least half a dozen lending institutions since February.
