WOONSOCKET- Catherine A. McNamara, 82, a retired elementary school teacher, passed away peacefully, with dignity, respect and love at the home of her goddaughter, niece and caregiver Donna M. Lafayette after a lengthy illness.
She was attended by her nephew Michael McNamara, Donna and Rene Lafayette, with whom she lived and their dog, her guardian Otto.
Born on December 15, 1929 in the Bannigan City section of Millville, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Winifred (Duffy) McNamara.
She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Royce Carlton McNamara, who predeceased her on October 10, 2000.
The sister of John and Timothy McNamara, both of Millville and Mary Gravel of North Smithfield, she was predeceased by her brother William McNamara. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McNamara had graduated from Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts with a Bachelors degree. She went on to receive a Master of Arts degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. She was an elementary school teacher at the Halliwell School in North Smithfield and the Smith Elementary School in Tenafly, New Jersey before retiring in 1986.
She enjoyed traveling with her late husband and was greatly devoted to her Faith.
Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 26 at 10:00 at Holy Family Church, South Main Street, Woonsocket. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Blackstone. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. Arrangements are under the direction of the Peter Kubaska & Son Funeral Home, 33 Harris Avenue, Woonsocket.
