WOONSOCKET- Philip Drobnis, 86, of Woonsocket, passed away September 23, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of 14 years, Lucie R. (Beaulieu) Drobnis.
Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Morris and Annie (Wascelssky) Drobnis.
Philip was a graduate of Dorchester High School. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Oliver Mitchell and the USS Leroy Wilson and receiving the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was a supervisor for American Tourister and had previously owned Puritan Creamery in the Forest Hills section of Boston. Philip served on the board of Kennedy Manor, was a member of its social club and was its BINGO announcer. He was a member of the American Legion and the Cosmopolitan Masons. Philip was a past Secretary for the Fraternal Order of Police Association, Woonsocket Lodge, and was awarded the 1997 Man of the Year award.
Besides his wife Lucie, Philip leaves his daughter, Toby Drobnis of Wrentham, MA; his stepson, Paul Bouley of Woonsocket; two stepdaughters, Donna Robert of Woonsocket and Judy Beauregard and her husband Normand of Attleboro, MA; three sisters, Thelma Palmer of New Haven, CT, the late Bessie Ofstein and the late Frances Elkins; a brother, the late Louis Drobnis; five grandchildren, Ryan, Joni, Derek, Adam and Joshua; and many nephews and nieces.
His calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 4 - 7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
