MYSTIC, CT- Francis H. Roberts, Sr., 89, of New London Rd., Mystic, CT and formerly of Woonsocket, died September 24, 2012 in The Holiday, Lincoln. He was the husband of the late Margaret Theresa (Walker) Roberts.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late George and Johanna (Howard) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran and worked as an Electrical Engineer for General Dynamics - Electric Boat, Groton, CT, retiring in 1989. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering from URI in 1954, was the first President of URI's Tau Beta Pi Chapter and was inducted into several Engineering Honor Societies. Mr. Roberts was an amateur radio operator, and, if you asked him, was an accomplished pianist and clarinet player. He was a member of the VFW, Woonsocket and enjoyed wintering in Florida.
He is survived by three children; Francis Roberts, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Lakewood, NJ, Susan SanSouci and her husband Horace of No. Smithfield and Michael Roberts and his wife Natalie of Toano, VA, a brother; Paul Roberts of Woonsocket, two sisters, Eleanor Bentley of Glocester and Ethel Hewitt of No. Smithfield, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and his companion of over twenty years, Rita SanSouci of Woonsocket. He was the father of the late Sheila Murray and brother of the late George, Jr. and Leonard Roberts and Joan Doorley.
His funeral will be held Friday, September 28, 2012, beginning with visitation at 9:30AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone.
