Man tears up bar, doesn't remember, say cops

October 2, 2012

WOONSOCKET — Patrons and employees dragged an intoxicated, unruly man from the Vintage Sunday afternoon before he destroyed the front door in an effort to get back in.
The 67-year-old Woonsocket resident identified as Bernard Joseph Bernard III never had a single drink at the Market Square dining spot, according to police reports.
About 5:44 p.m., police reports said, Bernard came in, sat down at the bar and immediately began harassing other patrons. At one point, Bernard allegedly got into a physical altercation with another man sitting near him and was seen striking the victim with his fists several times.
Several people overpowered Bernard and literally dragged him from the restaurant as he kicked and flailed, police said.
He managed to get back to his feet outside the entryway and began violently jostling the door in attempts to get back inside.
The owner told police the door would have to be replaced a cost of about $2,000, because it was split and the locks were damaged.
No charges were lodged against Bernard for the alleged assault, but police charged him with disorderly conduct and vandalism. He made remarks at police headquarters suggesting he had no recollection of what happened at the restaurant, according to police.

• Cheryl L. Cacciato, 48, of Woonsocket, was charged with violating a no-contact order about 5:45 p.m. Sunday in World War II Veterans Memorial Park. Police said they arrested her after she was seen with Richard F. Balboni, 49, who filed a felony domestic assault complaint against her several weeks ago. Cacciato said she wanted to cancel the no-contact order because she and Balboni had made up, but police said their records showed the order was still active.
