City man picked up for domestic strangulation

October 3, 2012

WOONSOCKET — A 24-year-old city man was charged with domestic assault by strangulation, domestic kidnapping and other charges. Police said they lodged the charges against Shane Michael Hall after speaking to officers from Franklin, Mass. on Monday.
The Massachusetts officers said the victim, a 19-year-old woman, told them she had been assaulted by Hall in Franklin that same day and they were giving her a courtesy ride back to Woonsocket. When they interviewed her, Franklin police said, the woman also revealed she had been brutally strangled by Hall in Woonsocket on Sept. 26.
During their own investigation, local police said the woman told them she had been strangled by Hall to the point of passing out while her two-year-old daughter and a friend of Hall’s were in the house. The victim told police that when she tried to use her cell phone, Hall threw it in the trash, and whenever she tried to leave, Hall prevented her from doing so, holding her a virtual prisoner for several hours.
The woman told police her throat was sore and her voice raspy for several days after the attack.
After taking the complaint, Woonsocket police looked for Hall at the home of Corey Howard, the friend who was present during the alleged assault and who, despite the victim’s entreaties, did nothing to stop it, according to reports. When police knocked on Howard’s door, they said, he was verbally abusive and loud, drawing a crowd of onlookers from neighboring apartments. He was taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct.
Domestic assault by strangulation and domestic kidnapping are felonies. In addition, Hall was also charged with domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone and domestic disorderly conduct.
The attack, she said, came during an argument when Hall accused her of being unfaithful.
