SCITUATE — North Smithfield’s season came to a crushing finish in its Division III quarterfinal-round matchup with Scituate on Tuesday afternoon at the Scituate town courts.
The Spartans, the No. 2 seed from the West, scratched out a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory in third singles to score a 4-3 victory and advance to tomorrow’s semifinal round.
The Northmen picked up their victories from Tiana Ahmed, who defeated Scituate’s Jackie Youngdahl in second singles, 7-6, 6-4; Leah McCarvill, who topped Morgan Berard in fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2; and the first doubles team of McKenzie Byrne and Leilani Felician, which posted a 6-1, 7-6 victory over the Spartans’ team of Meghan Godbout and Lindsay Cathcart.
The Northmen, who were the No. 3 seed from the East, wrap up an outstanding season with their second straight 10-5 record. They are 38-11 over the past three seasons.
Scituate (13-2), which reached the Division III finals last season, will take on Division III-East champion Mount Hope (14-1) tomorrow afternoon.
