Ruth G. Barnatt

October 26, 2012

BLACKSTONE- Ruth G. (Miller) Barnatt, 92, formerly of Blackstone, MA, died peacefully October 20, 2012 surrounded by her family in Yarmouthport, MA after a brief illness.
Ruth was born in Blackstone, MA in March 1920 to Edwin A. Miller and Antoinette (Emidy) Miller. She was married to William J. Barnatt of Millville, who preceded her in death in1975.
Voted the prettiest girl by her senior classmates, Ruth graduated from Blackstone High School in 1937. An avid outdoorswoman she was known for her fly-fishing and shooting skills, useful talents in growing up during the Great Depression. Her love of the outdoors and nature extended throughout her life. Ruth appreciated classic movies and could produce fascinating and obscure facts about golden-age movie stars with incredible accuracy. A common-sense Yankee, Ruth recycled, reduced and reused decades before the concept was coined. She was, however, exceptionally generous to her family, giving her time, love, and wisdom freely.
During her lifetime Ruth worked as an X-ray technician, teachers aide, and housekeeper for St. Pauls rectory. Her most fulfilling vocation, however, was that of wife and mother to her family. She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and gentle matriarch. Ruth anchored her life in her Catholic faith and shared her strong faith through daily prayers for families and friends.
Ruth was the mother of seven children, Patricia R. Barnatt of Providence, RI; Christine Burdette of Woonsocket, RI; William J. and his wife Judith (Evans) Barnatt, of Yarmouthport, MA; Louise Barnatt Anderson (Deceased); Thomas and his wife Mary Ellen (Chartier) Barnatt of Milford, MA; Marian C. and her husband James Upton of Yarmouthport, MA; Steve and his wife Joan (Berthelette) Barnatt of Graham, NC; 22 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
A memorial Catholic Mass of celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Paul's Church, St. Pauls Street, Blackstone, MA. An inurnment ceremony of Christian burial will follow immediately at Blackstone Cemetery, Mendon Street, Blackstone.
