Two men face drug charges following separate vehicle stops

November 4, 2012

WOONSOCKET – A local man is facing a string of drug charges after a motor vehicle stop, police said.
Chyron Abney of 27 Olo St. was already wanted on a warrant for two counts of delivery of cocaine when police stopped his green Pontiac on Arnold Street Thursday, said Detective Jamie Paone, a spokeswoman for the police. After stopping the vehicle, police searched his apartment, where they found crack cocaine, marijuana, pharmaceuticals and cash.
Based on the subsequent search, police lodged against Abney a third count of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, as well as charges of distribution of a controlled substance near a school, felony possession of marijuana, possession of a counterfeit bill and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Also, on Thursday, police charged a man with possession of schedule I-V and possession of marijuana (1st offense) following a traffic stop on Blackstone Street.
According to a press release, Officers Justin Mowry and Gabriel Koneczny stopped a gray Pontiac on Blackstone Street for failing to stop at a stop sign. Officer Koneczny asked a passenger, Julio Resto, to exit the vehicle. During a pat-down of Resto, Officer Koneczny located a partially smoked marijuana cigarette in the suspect’s pocket.
The vehicle was towed because it was not properly registered. During an inventory search of the vehicle prior to being towed, Officer Mowry found heroin in the vehicle, which Resto claimed as his.
