NORTH SMITHFIELD- Rae-Ann Elise (Denis) Yamzon, 55, of Duane Court, North Smithfield, passed away on October 31, 2012 in Woonsocket after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Paul L. Yamzon, whom she married March 22, 1986.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Johanne M. (Bombardier) Denis of Woonsocket and the late Raymond D. Denis.
Mrs. Yamzon was a highly respected and dedicated employee of the Rhode Island School of Design for twenty years, starting in Human Resources and then as an Executive Administrative Assistant in the Office of Information Technology since 1999. She was a valued member of the RISD Staff Council since its inception eight years ago. She served on numerous committees and task forces. She was always willing to take on any task that would benefit members of the RISD or Greater Providence Community. Her efforts included support of the RI Community Food Bank, the RISD Golf Tournament which raised scholarship funds for RISD students, the Mayor's Coat Drive and many other projects.
Rae-Ann was the epitome of the 'quiet leader'. Everyone knew if you needed help accomplishing any task, she was the person you needed on your team. To many, she was so much more than a colleague - she was a dear, dear, friend and she will be sorely missed by all.
Rae-Ann was a world traveler, having lived in England for four years and she especially enjoyed travelling and vacationing with friends in the Bahamas every May. An avid runner and physical fitness advocate she participated in several charity events and was a member of the Live Strong Foundation out of the E. Providence YMCA. She cherished her great niece and nephew, Keeley and Ethan. She loved her two cats, Reggie and Jackson. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. Everyone loved Rae-Ann.
Along with her husband Paul and mother Johanne, she is survived by two brothers; Gary Denis and Brian Denis, both of Woonsocket and two nieces; Danielle Marland of Cranston and Micheline Denis of Johnston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 11 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 in memory of Rae-Ann.
