NORTH SMITHFIELD- Gerard A. Cayer, 90, of North Smithfield, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Antoine Residence, with family by his side.
Born in Taunton, MA on October 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Alfred H. and Aurore B. (Barry) Cayer.
He was the brother of the late Rita Platiau, Bertrand, Roger, and Raymond Cayer. He leaves his nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was a resident of North Smithfield since the early 1970's, formerly of Woonsocket and was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy Class of 1940. Also, was a graduate of Angelo's School of Hair Design, Main Street, Woonsocket and became a teacher and taught at the Providence school. He then opened his own family salon in Slatersville Plaza, Jerry's Hair Fashions in 1973 until retiring in 1988.
He was a World War II United States Army Air Corps Veteran attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church, served as a Eucharist Minister, served on the Finance Committee and sang in the choir. He also sang with the Peloquin Choral in Providence. He was a member of the Rocheleau Club and the Beethoven Club both in Woonsocket. He was an avid amature painter. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 6th at 9:00AM from CARTIER' S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM at St. Antoine Residence Chapel, 10 Rhodes Avenue, North Smithfield, RI. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Slatersville, RI. Visiting time from 9:00 to 10:30AM at the funeral home prior to Mass.
