Police officers look to bring joy to city kids

WOONSOCKET — The city is struggling financially, but that won’t stop Santa’s elves at the Police Department from doing their part to make the holidays happy and bright for local disadvantaged children.
The Woonsocket Police Toy Drive is back in operation for the 18th year and Det. Sgts. John Scully III and Kevin Greenough, drive coordinators for the department, reported Tuesday toy donations have already begun to arrive at the police station.
Police know all too well how children can be affected by difficult economic times and Greenough, stepping up to help run the drive this year, said the toy drive is a good way to do something about that.
“Getting a gift that means something to them will provide that little extra lift to brighten their Christmas,” he said. Greenough has helped out to a lesser degree as a volunteer
