City man charged with violently attacking roommate

November 30, 2012

WOONSOCKET – A 48-year-old city man was charged with domestic assault and related violations after allegedly attacking a roommate during a dispute this week in their Burnside Avenue apartment.
The victim, Babacar Seck, went to the police station to file a complaint against John Trites, 48, after Trites allegedly grabbed him by the throat and pounded his head into the drywall of the apartment during the alleged assault.
Seck reported he was in his rented room in the apartment with his wife, drinking and listening to music at about 9 p.m. Sunday when Trites pushed his way into the room, according to police.
The suspect wanted the couple to be quiet and Trites allegedly attacked Seck when he responded that they did not need to comply, according to police.
Trites, who was reported to have rented another of the apartment’s rooms, allegedly grabbed Seck by the throat and pushed him back into the drywall, banging his head against the wall repeatedly, police said.
The victim said he attempted to call police via his cell phone but that Trites ripped it from his hand and broke it.
The suspect left the apartment at that point but returned at 5 a.m. on Monday and again entered the couple’s room while ordering them to be quiet, according to police. The victim reported Trites assaulted him a second time before leaving the room.
The victim went to the police station to report the incident because his cell phone was not working, police said.
Patrolmen Andrew A. Girard and Andrew Broccoli went to the 34 Burnside Ave. address to investigate the Monday complaint and found the walls damaged and further evidence of the domestic incident. Trites was taken into custody on charges of domestic simple assault and battery, domestic refusal to relinquish the telephone, and domestic disorderly conduct, police said.
