Police: Woman beaten, bitten, threatened in feud with boyfriend

December 20, 2012

WOONSOCKET — A 21-year-old woman was beaten, bitten and threatened with a knife during a feud with her boyfriend Wednesday, police said.
Brad Johnson, 19, of 78 Spring St., was arrested after fleeing the residence and charged with domestic assault with a deadly weapon, domestic disorderly conduct and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone.
Police said the victim tried to call 911 several times while they were en route to the residence, but the only thing the caller managed to say was that someone was holding a knife to her neck.
When they arrived, police said the woman had red welts on her face in the shape of fingerprints and a bite mark on her shoulder. She said Johnson had been “hitting her all day.” She repeatedly tried calling for help, but Johnson “hit the phone out of her hands,” according to reports.
There were two active arrest warrants for Johnson before the attack, police said. One was issued by the North Providence police for failure to pay after gassing up a motor vehicle, the other a Superior Court warrant for failure to appear for a hearing on the issue of paying a fine.
Police described the feud between Johnson and his girlfriend as a lover’s quarrel that began when she confronted him about a telephone call from an ex-girlfriend.
