Cumberland art group opens show

December 23, 2012

WOONSOCKET —The Art Group from the Cumberland Public Library has opened a show of its members' art work in the upstairs gallery of the Museum of Work & Culture at Market Square.
Art Canestrari, an Art Group member and artist, said the show includes works from group members on a wide range of topics and natural scenes.
“We meet at the Cumberland Public Library on the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m.,” Canestrari, a retired dentist, said while setting up the exhibit with other members of the group.
“We are a group of about 12 artists and will be showing a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics, photography and pencil,” he said.
Claire DiSpirito of Lincoln will be showing both acrylic paintings and watercolors on her share of the exhibit's wall space, and Richard Engert of New York, several of his watercolors.
Nina Nizetic, a retired psychologist from Cumberland, placed several of her watercolors of flowers and still lifes in the show.
“I love to paint flowers and I don't like landscapes, they aren't my type of art,” she said.
Art Group artists also work in charcoal, collage, object sculpture, blacksmithing and digital illustration. The group was founded by Mary Lou Conca at the Library in 2010.
Members showing works at the museum also include Conca, Jerry Aissis, Bernadette Azar, Elaine Barrett, Julie DeOliveira, Elaine Devonis, Jason Freedman, Jean Fujio, Perchuhy Hamamjian, Randy Jaacks, Marguerite Ofria Pile and Edward Venditelli.
The show will be on display in the upstairs gallery through Feb. 8, according to Canestrari. A reception with the artists will be held on Feb. 6, he said.
