NORTH SMITHFIELD- Alfred J. Stand, 92, of North Smithfield, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Kathleen M. (Bennett) Stand.
Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late Charles and Julia (Cichacki) Stand.
He was truck driver for Johnson Motor Lines Uxbridge, MA retiring in 1980. During World War II, he served as a flight engineer and Top Turret Gunner, with 32 missions over Germany with the 392 Bomb Group of the eighth Air Force. He was active with the Mount Morah Lodge of Masons in Lincoln, the Union Royal Arch Chapter #5 of Woonsocket, the Palestine Temple of Cranston, and Holy Sepulcher of Commandery #8 of the Knights Templar. Mr. Stand was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Millville, MA
Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Norma J. Coon of Greenwood Lake, NY; his brother, Charles Stand of Northbridge, MA; two sisters, Joanne Dalti of No. Smithfield and Rita Dubois of Maine; four grandchildren, Heather Coard and her husband Michael of Greenwood Lake, NY, Christopher Coon and his fiance Marjorie Bailey of Fishkill, NY, Seth Coon of Greenwood Lake, NY and Susannah Coon and her significant other Kyle Utter of Watervliet, NY; and four great grandchildren, Victoria, Christopher, Alexandria and Harrison Coard. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Francis Stand and two sisters, Lillian Hicks and Celia Ingalls.
Funeral services and burial are private. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 48 Central Street, Millville, MA 01529.
