WOONSOCKET - Michael Hlywka, 95, of Third Ave. died peacefully Friday January 4, 2013 at home with his family by his side.
He was the husband of Lillian (Surprenant) Hlywka. Michael and Lillian celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this past August. He worked for various textile mills in the area and also Foxboro Co. as a Machinist Tech for 20 years.
He was a United Stated Army Veteran serving in WWII obtaining the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Three Bronze Service Stars.
He was a former member of the VFW Leclair Logan Kozlic Post in Slatersville, RI. He also served as Assistant Scout Master for the former Troup 26 in Woonsocket several years ago.
Besides his wife Lillian, he is survived by one son, Michael R. Hlywka, of Woonsocket, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:00 A.M. for the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, RI. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart Church, Second Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, South County Trail, Exeter, RI. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours are Wednesday from 5-8 P.M.
