UNIONVILLE, CT- Leona Ann (Makowski) Paul, 71, died peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2012 in Unionville, CT.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Dale William Paul; her sons, Scott and Cary; daughter-in-laws, Erika and Arlene; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Amanda, Korben, Samantha, Will, and Annika; and many other loving siblings, nieces and nephews and extended family.
Known as Lee to her family and friends, who were many, she was born on April 11, 1941, to Michael and Stella Makowski.
She was the graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in Newport, R.I. and served in the U.S. Air Force while attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Lee began working at Manchester Memorial Hospital in 1967 and retired as a nursing supervisor in 1993.
Lee grew up in Pascoag, Rhode Island as one of eight children. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed practicing Ikebana Japanese flower arranging and spending time with her grandchildren. Lee was an animal lover, and had a particular soft spot for cats, of which she has had many through the years.
The family held a private memorial service on December 15. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to The Sherwin Fund through Our Companions, a local Connecticut charity helping homeless cats: Our Companions Animal Rescue, P.O.
