BLACKSTONE — Millville's loss is Blackstone's gain.
Lisa G. Cheever, Millville's library director since 2005, is the new director of the Blackstone Public Library.
Cheever began her new duties in Blackstone on Jan. 14 and was formally introduced to the Board of Selectmen on Jan. 22.
"We have been without a library director for the past seven months and we're extremely happy to have someone who can immediately begin taking on the duties and responsibilities of library director," Mary Lou Branchaud, chairwoman of the Library Board of Trustees, said in introducing Cheever to the board.
Cheever spent nearly eight years as director of the Millville Free Public Library. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from Worcester State College in 2004 and is certified through the Massachusetts Library Board of Commissioners.
"I'm pleased to meet everyone," Cheever said. "It's an honor and a privilege to work with such a dedicated board of trustees and library staff."
"We look forward to working with you and seeing what progressive ideas you bring to enhance our library," said Selectwoman Margo Bik.
In her remarks, Branchaud lauded assistant library director and children's librarian Tressy Collier, who was acting director for the past seven months.
A formal public reception to welcome Cheever is being planed by the trustees.
