Trailer for Slatersville documentary released online

February 14, 2013

NORTH SMITHFIELD — The first trailer for the documentary “Slatersville: America’s First Mill Village” has been released online. The six-minute video represents a portion of the interviews filmed for the documentary, which is almost halfway through its production.
In one week the trailer has been viewed over 2,500 times on YouTube and the film’s director has received enthaustic responses from the public. This trailer will air on Rhode Island PBS.
The release of the trailer coincides with a second grant award from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities for Slatersville through its Major Grants Program. The film has also received grant awards through the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor.
“While we have a long way to go to bring the story of Slatersville to life, we continue to be overwhelmed by the support and interest we’ve received,” said Christian DeRezendes, the film’s director.
The film’s website at www.firstmillvillage.com provides a link to the trailer on YouTube as well as access to some of the rare images and stories that have been unearthed through the journey of making the film.
Produced in cooperation with the Town of North Smithfield and Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamilton, the film will tell the story of the Slatersville Mill and the design and settlement of America’s first pre-planned mill village in Slatersville, a village in the Town of North Smithfield, and its important role in the Industrial Revolution.
