NORTH CAROLINA- Odessa (Burton) Coleman, 92, of Ingleside Dr., formerly of Bourdon Blvd. died Sunday February 10, 2013. She was the wife of the late James Coleman.
Born in Winston-Salem, South Carolina, daughter of the late Cliff Riley and Alice Burton.
Mrs. Coleman lived in Newberry So. Carolina until 1940, moving to Woonsocket where she lived until three years ago when she moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter Margaret.
Odessa worked as Spinner for various textile mills in Woonsocket.
She was a member of St. James Baptist Church and also served as a Deaconess, for the Church.
She is survived by one son Tommy Lee Coleman, of Pawtucket, R.I. Two daughters, Matty Simmons of South Carolina, and Margaret Cooks of North Carolina, One sister, Annie Harris of Woonsocket, RI. Twenty grandchildren, thirty five great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons Zebbie and Willie J. Coleman, three daughters Mary Scurry, Rosata Rogers, and Anne Coleman.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday February 19, 2013 at 11 A.M. in St. James Baptist Church, South Main St. Woonsocket, R.I. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, North Smithfield, R.I. Relatives and friends are invited; Calling hours will be held from 10 - 11 A.M. in the Church prior to the service. The S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd., Woonsocket, is in charge of the arrangements.
