The dust has settled and the Sweet 16 field for the open state tournament is signed, sealed and delivered. Courtesy of Shea High assistant coach Henry Coleman, behold is the group that will see one team emerge to cut down the nets at URI’s Ryan Center come Saturday, March 9:

Based on the above figures, the opening-round games involving teams from our coverage area will feature Cumberland versus Prout and North Smithfield against Shea. The only piece of information still under wraps is which four-team region these teams will compete in along with the day and venue their Round of 16 game takes place.
All those answers will be revealed Monday night at 7:30 when Ocean State Networks (Cox Ch. 5, HD 1005) stages a live broadcast of the releasing of boys’ basketball tournament pairings.
Looking ahead to the first round of the state tourney, doubleheaders will place Wednesday and Thursday night that begin at 6 p.m. with the second game tentatively slated to tip off at 8. CCRI-Warwick will host games Wednesday and Thursday while Rhode Island College will be the site for games Wednesday while Roger Williams University hosts games on Thursday.
The Round of Eight is scheduled for next Sunday at Providence College’s Alumni Hall. The first game tips off at 12 p.m. followed by 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Final Four takes place Friday, March 8 at URI (6 and 8 p.m. start times) with the following night at the same location featuring a winner-take-all showdown that tips off at 7:30.
