Ernest R. Lafond, Sr.

WOONSOCKET- Ernest R. Lafond, Sr., 79, of Pond St., died February 24, 2013 in The Friendly Home, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Joan E. (Girard) Lafond whom he married September 5, 1953.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Germaine (Lariviere) Lafond.
Mr. Lafond worked sixteen years as Woonsocket City Clerk, retiring in 1994 as the Executive Director of the Woonsocket Housing Authority and had also worked in the foundry at Draper's. A Korean War Army Veteran, he enjoyed camping and wintering in Florida. Ernest was a past member of the Woonsocket Democratic Committee, past president and treasurer of the Cercle Laurier, past president of the Kawanis Club and a member of Woonsocket Elks Lodge #850.
Besides his wife Joan, he is survived by three sons; Ernest Lafond, Jr. of Pascoag, David Lafond and his wife Michelle of Harrisville, and John Lafond and his wife Anneli of Harrisville, two daughters; Paula Hogue and her husband Donald of Woonsocket and Carol Moreau and her husband Robert of Woonsocket, three brothers; Leo Lafond of AZ and Ronald and Robert Lafond, both of RI, four sisters; Lucille Paquette and Claire Berard, both of RI and Janet Contre and Arline Richard, both of MA, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Normand Lafond and Muriel Dagesse.
His funeral will be held Thursday, Feburary 28, 2013 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket was a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Agatha's Church, 34 Joffre Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association - RI Chapter, c/o Kent Hospital, 455 Tollgate Rd. Building 2C, Warwick, RI 02886.
