ATTLEBORO- Joan Irza, 95, a loving mother, grandmother and sister, passed peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro after a three week stay at the facility. She was the beloved wife of the late Jacob Bohdan Irza who passed on July 1, 1968.
Born on September 11, 1917 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Joan was the daughter of the late Marian and Emilia (Zmudsky) Petrowicz. She was raised and educated in Woonsocket. Joan was employed for many years at the former Metals & Controls Company which later became Texas Instruments in Attleboro as an assembler, retiring over forty years ago.
Joan enjoyed playing cards, cooking and solving word puzzles. She was always well read and would often be found with a newspaper in hand. Joan also was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro.
Joan resided the past forty years with her daughter, Patricia Carella. At first they resided in Attleboro and, for the past ten years, in Norton. Joan cherished spending time with her family.
Joan is survived by her two loving daughters: Jean C. Nowak of Fall River and Patricia I. Carella of Norton; a brother: Marion Petrowicz of East Blackstone, MA; a beloved grandson: James Nowak and his wife Tracy Randall of Venice, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the beloved sister of the late John and James Petrowicz, Mildred Cherkes and Stasia Jalowy.
Friends and family are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 4 - 8 PM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St. Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 9 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St, Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. Richard Wilson, pastor.
Mrs. Irza will be laid beside her beloved husband, Jacob in St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro. An on-line guest book for remembrances and condolences may we found at:
