WOONSOCKET - Wilfrid H. Therrien, 90, of Fox Brook Manor, died March 17, 2013 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Anita (Bilodeau) Therrien. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John F. and Diana (Rousseau) Therrien.
Mr. Therrien was a WWII Navy Veteran and had also served his country as a member of the OSS. He was a self-employed plumber and assisted the town of Blackstone in many capacities, including, Plumbing Inspector, as a member of the Board of Health and as a member of the Zoning Board. Wilfrid received a teaching certificate in his 60's and taught for many years until his retirement. Additionally, he was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church, Blackstone, where he also taught CCD and was the past commander of the Blackstone VFW for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, John Therrien of Blackstone, David Therrien of Bellingham, Richard Therrien of Woonsocket, Paul Therrien of Lincoln and Robert Therrien Blackstone, a daughter; Helen Gongoleski of Harrisville, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William Therrien.
His funeral will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Theresa's Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone. Calling hours are Friday from 5 - 8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802, New York, New York 10001.
