WOONSOCKET- Eugene Wecal, 84, of Woonsocket, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 in his home. He was the husband of Gertrude H. (MacDonald) Wecal, whom he married December 20, 1952.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Rose (Bukata) Wecal.
Mr. Wecal was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and St. Anslem College, Manchester, NH. He received a Masters in Education at Boston University. Mr. Wecal was a teacher in the Cumberland and Warren school systems and later was an admissions officer at Nichols College, Dudley, MA. He was a Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Wecal was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. He was an avid golfer.
Besides his wife Gertrude, he leaves two sons, Thomas E. Wecal of Woonsocket and David A. Wecal and his wife Kathleen of Chatham, NJ and two grandsons, Nicholas and Patrick Wecal. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Steve Wecal and his sister, Mary Malenczuk.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10 AM in St. James Episcopal Church, 24 Hamlet Ave. Burial will follow in Slatersville Cemetery, Slatersville. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-7 PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
