CUMBERLAND- Whalen, Kevin, 74, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 1, 2013. He was the husband of Barbara (Lucas) Whalen. They were happily married for 43 years.
Born in Whitman, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Alice (Hayes) Whalen.
Mr. Whalen graduated from Whitman High School, Class of 1956, University of Notre Dame, Class of 1961. Upon graduation he entered the service and served from 1961 to 1967 in the United States Navy. He worked for IBM in sales and marketing from 1967-1980, and Academic Management Services from 1980-1990. He then started his own business, Majors Medical Supply of Johnston, retiring in 2003. He was a founding member and past president of the Aspergers Association of New England. He served on the finance council for many years at Saint Ambrose Church, Albion, RI. During his retirement he visited nearly all of the major league baseball parks with his son Andrew.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Margaret Charron and her husband, Richard, Katherine Whalen and her husband, Bart Catalane, and Andrew M. Whalen, a brother, Thomas Whalen and his wife Etta, two sisters, Mary Whalen and Sheila Campbell and her husband, Clif. He also leaves three grandchildren, Mary Kate, Sophie, and Matt Charron. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11am in Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be in Saint Ambrose Cemetery, Albion. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8pm in The O'NEILL Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Rhode Island Hospital, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI, 02903 in honor of Mr. Whalen.
