PCOA awards football officials' contract to South Eastern Mass.

April 10, 2013

PROVIDENCE – The Principals’ Committee on Athletics (PCOA), the governing board of the RIIL, met on Wednesday morning to review and discuss the bid proposals submitted to the R.I. Interscholastic League to administer and assign football officials for all RIIL football games.
During this process, the PCOA allowed the RI Football Officials Association the opportunity to address their issues, concerns and their proposal.
After considerable debate and discussion, and with the input from the R.I. Football Coaches Association and R.I. Athletic Administrators Association the PCOA voted 15-1 to award the bid to administer the officiating of RIIL football games to Mr. James Ashley, Commissioner of Officials for the South Eastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association.
This award would allow Mr. Ashley, as the commissioner of officials the authority to work with the South Eastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association and other football officials associations, to assign, evaluate and train officials to be used in all RIIL games.
The PCOA approved a two-year agreement between the South Eastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association and the RIIL. In this agreement, the South Eastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association and other associations will work with the RIIL to ensure that all requirements associated with the administration of officiating all RIIL football games are met to the highest standard.
