BURRILLVILLE- Richard J. Hodson Jr., 82, died Saturday April 27, 2013 in Providence VA Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Shirley M. (Cornil) Hodson whom he married Mar. 5, 1951.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Richard J. Hodson, Sr. and Anna T. (Halama) Hodson. A lifelong resident of Pascoag,
Richard was a store Manager for the former A&P Supermarket of Pascoag for many years, then Financial Director at Zambarano Hospital for more than 10 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Hodson was a Town Councilman from 1971 to 1980, and served as Council President for 6 years from 1974 to 1980. While president the new police station was built in its current location. Richard was also a charter member and past president of St. Joseph's School PTG and also a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was a member of the Burrillville Senior Citizens Association and served as Trip Coordinator and was a member of the Community Players theater group. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving on the USS Albany and a member of the USS Albany Association. A graduate of Burrillville High School, he was a Co-Captain of the 1947 championship football team. Mr. Hodson also attended the New Technical Institute.
Besides his wife Shirley, he is survived by one son Michael F. Hodson and his wife Terri-Lyn of Nasonville, three daughters, Shawn A. Capron and her husband Robert of Pascoag, Donna M. Crisafulli and her husband Richard of Pascoag, Linda J. Vario and her husband Kenneth of Jamestown, seven grandchildren, Eric, Erin, Jennifer, Laura, Chelsea, Katherine, and Sarah, and five great grandchildren, Darren, Noah, Nathan, Makenna and Addyson.
His funeral will be held Thursday May 2, 2013 at 9:30AM from the Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave., Pascoag, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30AM in St. Joseph's Church 183 Sayles Ave., Pascoag. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Main St. Pascoag. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Fr. Holland Catholic School, 180 Sayles Ave., Pascoag, RI 02859.
