HAMPDEN, MA- Doris Boisjoli, 90, passed away Friday May 17, 2013 peacefully in her sleep at Wingate Nursing Home in Hampden, MA. She was the wife of the late Joseph Bertrand Boisjoli and has been a military widow for 54 years.
Born in Woonsocket October 9, 1922 she graduated from Woonsocket High School. Doris moved to Springfield, MA where she worked as a Clerk in the Springfield Post Office for many years retiring in 1982.
She enjoyed flea markets and tag sales, trips to Florida, Polish picnics, and dancing. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made scarves and mittens for the homeless, she was an accomplished cook. She especially enjoyed Christmas decorating and made a Christmas Tree that was a spectacular sight to be seen and enjoyed by all. Doris loved driving her black Pontiac Bonneville and enjoyed the frequent trips to Woonsocket to visit family and friends and dine at her favorite restaurant "Ye Olde English Fish and Chips". She traveled extensively on cruises, a trip to the Virgin Islands, The Holy Land and a religious pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. Doris was a parishioner at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Parish in Springfield.
She is survived by her son Daniel Boisjoli and daughter Lorraine Szklarz and her husband Michael all of Springfield and her grandchildren Ashley and Justin Boisjoli of Southampton, MA. She was predeceased by her a brother Bertrand Barrette and sister Gertrude Lacoste.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Church, South Main St., Woonsocket.
