GLOCESTER- Leonhardt, Irene Lillian (Cooney) "Gram", 81, of Chepachet passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, June 5, 2013. She was the beloved wife of George "Bud" Leonhardt, Jr. for 60 years.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John and Irene (McLinden) Cooney.
She was the loving mother of Jay Leonhardt and his wife, Debra; Barbara Guilbault and husband, Peter; Jo-Ann Jalette and husband, Paul; George "Bud" Leonhardt III and wife, Patty; Frank Ricci and his wife, Barbie; her late infant twins, Mary and Joseph; her loving sister, Barbara Silva and husband, George. She was also the sister of the late John J. Cooney, Jr. Irene was "Gram" to 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Raised in Providence, she worked many years for New England Telephone and Scott's Market, retiring in 1989. She was an active parishioner for 56 years at St. Eugene Parish. She and her husband served on many committees along with being Eucharistic Ministers. Irene enjoyed sewing and the many activities at the Glocester Senior Center.
Her funeral will be held Monday, June 10 at 8:45 am from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave., (Rt. 44) Greenville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Eugene Church, 1251 Putnam Pike (Rt. 44), Chepachet, at 10 am. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 pm.
